As a founder, your ideas are your most valuable asset—and knowing how to protect them can give you a serious edge. This session introduces the fundamentals of intellectual property (IP) protection, including patents, trademarks, copyrights, and licensing strategies tailored for startups. You’ll learn when (and whether) to pursue IP protection, what the process looks like, and how to avoid common mistakes.

The session also covers how to work with the GW Technology Commercialization Office if you’re developing research-based IP, and how to approach licensing negotiations when your idea gains traction. Whether you’re building a physical product, tech tool, or research-driven innovation, this workshop will help you move forward with clarity and confidence.
