On behalf of the entire team at the Office of Innovation and Entrepreneurship, and all the students, faculty and partners who know her, I would like to bid a fond farewell to our friend and colleague, Kate Heath, our Director of Student Entrepreneurship. After three impactful years at GW and OIE, Kate is going to pursue a new opportunity with a startup company in Tampa, to, as she says, “walk the walk” as a startup team member. Kate has contributed greatly to the success of OIE from leading the New Venture Competition, mentoring our students toward entrepreneurial success as a dedicated Mentor-in-Residence, and as an excellent instructor in our Lean Startup-related programs.
On a personal note, Kate has been an excellent partner and collaborator, and I have enjoyed working with her. She has always shown an open, cooperative attitude while we were co-directors. When I was asked to take over the department, she demonstrated grace and the most positive of attitudes in supporting me in my new role during a turbulent time for the department. When she chose to move on to a new opportunity, which also offered her a chance to be closer to her family, she made the most graceful of exits, ensuring we could continue smooth operations moving into the annual New Venture Competition season. On behalf of the entire team, I wish her all the best in her new venture. I know she’s not going too far away, though, and I look forward to seeing her as a frequent instructor in our programs in the future.
